Biography

Dr Leon after his training in Greece and the USA passed the state exams, according to national law, and was certified as a Forensic Pathologist. As a certified Forensic Pathologist and a sole trader he maintains one of the few private medico-legal practices in Greece.

He is a graduate (MD) of the Medical School of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, where he also obtained two Master Degrees (MSc). In 2009 he received his PhD from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He trained and worked in the Department of Legal Medicine and Toxicology in the University of Athens, in the Children’s hospital “Agia Sophia” as well as in the Office of Medical Examiner and trauma services of Broward County in the State of Florida, USA, with renowned forensic pathologists as Dr Joshua Perper and Dr. Stephen Cina.

He has published a number of scientific articles in scientific Greek and international journals and he has given lectures in conferences in Greece and abroad. Moreover, he has taught over several years at the University of Rome, has taught at the University of Athens and the University of Crete and was a regular Professor of Forensic Medicine at the Police Academy of the Hellenic Police. He is the co-writer of published scientific books, belongs to the editorial team of an international scientific journal of medicine, while he is a judge or consultant in other. His research interests are in the areas of Forensic Pathology, Medical Deontology and Bioethics. For his scientific work he has been awarded scholarships from, amongst others, UNESCO and the European Committee.

Dr. Leon is President of the Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine and is a representative (as a deputy) of Greece in the European Council of Legal Medicine. He is on the lists of experts in the county courts of law (Athens, Piraeus, etc.). He can work on cases in Greek, in English and in the Italian language.
